Jack holds his ground, insisting that the annulment is necessary because he never wanted children, and now that Mary is pregnant, in time, it will only make them both miserable. Father McShane presses Jack to find out how much of this has been brought on by his sexual problems, and reassures him that Mary isn't concerned. Jack promises Father McShane that he will consult a specialist about his physical condition before he pursues the annulment.
