Totally Kate! The Official Website of Kate Mulgrew

11/15/07

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've had an absolutely wonderful year in the theatre, playing two very different roles in two wildly different plays, "Our Leading Lady" and "Iphigenia 2.0", and am more and more convinced that happiness lies in creativity, which demands a presence that nothing else quite compares with, and when we are present, we are fully alive.  Now, there is a slight pause while various unions sort out their differences, after which everyone will get back to work.  In the meantime, there is marriage and motherhood, a marvelous trip to Paris with my sister, readings of new plays, a stack of books on the bed table, dinners to plan and execute, friends to enjoy, Thanksgiving and Christmas to celebrate (Christmas will be all mine this year).

The work with The Alzheimer's Organization continues, despite my own very serious concerns and questions about research & development, my need to stay abreast of everything and the inevitable 'black hole' that science presents before it promises a solution.  Perseverance, patience and generosity are the keys, and on that note I want to thank all of you who have given so graciously of both your time and your money, who have not only talked the talk but virtually walked the walk, and who continue to impress me with your dedication, compassion and allegiance.  I'm a very lucky actress to have encountered so many with such heart and who, by virtue of their own integrity, make me feel a better human being.  I hope that the following months will bring with them many opportunities for dialogue:  I am really looking forward to my afternoon with Samantha Eggar in Pasadena, she is a great friend of mine and an extraordinary woman and the day promises to be unorthodox, unscripted and (one hopes) unparalleled.

My appearances will take me to Cleveland (the symphony), Chicago, L.A., perhaps London and always, always New York, the City of my Soul.  I will keep you all posted on my creative endeavors and encourage all of you to do as the French do... you know: eat, drink and be very, very merry.      XKate
